Getting Started Guides
Quick, step-by-step help for your new Byte Depot desktop and storage drives — from first boot to common fixes.
- Place the desktop on a flat, ventilated surface and connect your monitor (HDMI or DisplayPort), keyboard, and mouse.
- Plug the power cable into the back of the PC and a wall outlet, and set the power-supply switch to "I" (on).
- Turn on your monitor and set it to the matching input (HDMI/DisplayPort).
- Press the power button on the front of the case. The system will boot and walk you through the on-screen setup.
That's it — once setup finishes you're ready to go. If anything looks off, jump to the troubleshooting steps below.
If your system ships with Windows, the first boot starts the Windows setup assistant:
- Choose your region and keyboard layout.
- Connect to your Wi-Fi or Ethernet network.
- Sign in with a Microsoft account (or create one) — this lets you sync settings and recover your PC later.
- Accept the privacy settings you're comfortable with, and Windows will finish preparing your desktop.
The operating system included with your system is listed in the specifications on its product page.
- Confirm the power cable is firmly seated at both the wall outlet and the back of the PC.
- Check the power-supply switch on the back is set to "I".
- Try a different outlet to rule out the socket or power strip.
- If the PC powers on but the screen stays black, make sure the monitor is on, set to the correct input, and the video cable is plugged into the graphics ports on the lower rear of the case (not the motherboard ports, if your PC has a dedicated graphics card).

- Power off and unplug the computer, then open the side panel.
- For a 2.5" SSD or 3.5" HDD: mount it in an open drive bay and connect both the SATA data cable (to the motherboard) and the SATA power cable (from the power supply).
- For an M.2 SSD: insert it into the M.2 slot at an angle, press down, and secure it with the small screw.
- Close the case, power on, and open Windows "Disk Management" to initialize and format the new drive.
If you're not comfortable opening the case, contact us before you begin — we're happy to guide you.
- Make sure the monitor cable is connected to the dedicated graphics card ports (lower rear) if your PC has one.
- Try a different cable (HDMI/DisplayPort) or a different monitor to isolate the issue.
- Once in Windows, right-click the desktop → Display settings to set the recommended resolution and refresh rate.
For the best performance and security:
- Run Windows Update (Settings → Windows Update) and install pending updates.
- Restart when prompted so updates finish installing.
Most components update automatically through Windows Update. If you have a specific question about your configuration, reach out and we'll point you in the right direction.
